Happy New Year & Contest Updates

Happy New Year!

We at UBC Smart City would like to wish all a happy and wonderful 2021. With a new year comes new challenges and we are excited to provide an update on the two contests that we are currently participating in.

The first contest is the World’s Challenge Challenge, hosted by the UBC Global Lounge, and is a competition that seeks to engage students on international issues and how they can be catalysts for sparking social change. We are fortunate to have two teams participating:

Sophie Varabioff & Hamed Barkh, who will be focusing on the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) #3 – Good Health and Well-Being, as well as SDG #12 – Responsible Consumption and Production
Jasleen Kaur & Fayaz Damani, who will be focusing on SDG #3 – Good Health and Well-Being.

More details and information on the contest can be found here.

The second contest that we participating in is the Blue Sky Innovation Contest event held at the ASCE Rocky Mountain Student Conference and we are grateful that they have allowed us to join this competition remotely this year. The competition aims to identify visionary innovations to address infrastructure challenges around the world and to have the potential to reshape the way our infrastructure is built and used. Since this contest is only in its third year and still remains a pilot competition, jumping on this opportunity gives us a first mover advantage when this competition becomes a part of every ASCE Student Conference. We are excited for this unique opportunity and look forward to presenting our ideas while meeting other schools at this contest! For more information, the full contest details can be found here.
