We are excited to announce that our Energy Team has won the “Most Out Of the Box” theme challenge and placing as the runner up in the ChargePoint challenge statement! They were 1 of 10 teams that competed in this specific challenge and the results can be found here. Our team competed between November 6 to 8 and were tasked to find new ways to use EV charging station data for ChargePoint. Our team presented a framework to reduce life cycle GHG emissions from highways by leveraging EV charging station data to inform pavement rehabilitation. The idea was to combine existing traffic count data, charging station data, and route matching algorithms to predict the percent of truck traffic on each interstate highway that is electric. In doing so, highways with a higher % of gasoline or diesel trucks can be identified and prioritized for roadway resurfacing to achieve the largest reduction in GHG emissions.
